Room 1

Kia ora,

This is a letter of introduction, as well as an outline of what you and your child can expect from being in Room 1 this year.

I have been teaching at Clendon Park since 2009. I started in the junior area of our school and moved my way up to the year 7 & 8 team. We have a fabulous group of senior students, which makes it a pleasure to teach at this level.

On Mondays we have technology classes for our Year 7 & 8 students.  During this time they participate in a range of learning activities, such as sewing, cooking and business studies.

In Terms 1 and 4, we go to the Manurewa Leisure Centre Pools every Tuesday afternoon.  It is essential that your child brings their togs on Tuesdays – otherwise, they will be put into another class for the afternoon.

If your child is absent from school, you must contact the office to let them know the reason for the absence.  If a pattern of absence emerges, or if your child is regularly away from school, I will make contact with you to find out what can be done to help.  If absences continue, I am required by law to contact truancy services and refer it to them.

Homework is given every Monday and it is to be returned on Friday.  As the tamariki have an entire week to complete their homework, I do not accept excuses as to why it has not been done.  If it has not been done, or if I feel a minimal effort has been made, students will be required to complete this in their own time.

Correct school uniform must be worn at all times.  This is the mainstream shirt, skirt/shorts, and a blue jacket.  No other colours are permitted.  Students are not permitted to wear bracelets or wristbands.  Necklaces are not permitted (this does not include taonga) and only stud earrings are allowed.  In Terms 1 and 4, it is also compulsory to wear a hat each day.  If your child is not wearing the correct school uniform, I require a note from home explaining why.

We have a class blog, http://keepingupwithroom1cps.blogspot.co.nz/.  It will be regularly updated.  It will feature videos, photos and examples of your child’s work throughout the year.  We would love to see comments and feedback on this site.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at school on 267 6671, extension 717.

 Naku noa,

 Alicia Jones.
